(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Saudi Arabian forces have been recently deployed to Bahrain to assist the Al Khalifa regime in its brutal crackdown on protesters.
Press TV interviewed Dr. Hesham Tillawi, host of Current Issues TV and Radio, regarding the violations of human rights in the country and why it is not possible to see any coverage of such events in the mainstream news.
Q: If the situation of human rights violations inside of Saudi Arabia are so severe, why do we hear so little about it?
Tillawi: One of the things you mentioned was that many people are surprised at the repression and the amount of torture. Many people are not really surprised. Maybe they haven't seen this, but you have to understand where all these regimes came from. The only way they can stay in power is in fact that they rule by the sword. It is the only way to keep these regimes intact and in place.
Saudi Arabia is run by a royal family. That was done by the British. People forget about history and where all these Arab countries came from. Saudi Arabia is not an exception. Saudi Arabia has within its borders many different tribes and many different peoples with different religious denominations.
Unfortunately, these are not democracy movements we are seeing here. Not even in Saudi Arabia or even anywhere in the Arab world. What we are witnessing is basically a plan to throw the whole area into chaos including Saudi Arabia. There will be these reservations. The United States and the Western powers are creating this whole thing; thereafter, they will end up harvesting the fruits. They are going to have these reservations in the [Persian] Gulf area where the regimes are not yet ready to be removed.
You're going to do everything possible to keep these regimes in power mainly in the [Persian] Gulf area. Now why we are not seeing much of this is because the regime in Saudi Arabia is not a democratic regime. Things like this have been going on for many years because of the fact that it's a family that is ruling, and the only way you can rule is by the sword.
Q: There have been different human rights organizations from time to time pointing out some of the violations. But there has not been any real in-depth coverage.
Tillawi: Well who is controlling the coverage? You have to go back and say why we not see any coverage. Why doesn't Anderson Cooper get on CNN and cry about those people in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. It's because it does not fit into their agenda. Even most news organizations in the Middle East are either party driven or controlled by the government. If any of them are going to criticize the West or the United States or even Israel, they are going to probably be removed from their posts.
Let's face it. The media in the world is owned by the Zionists. It doesn't matter if it's a western power or even the media in the Middle East. If they don't own it, they have ways to pressure the government to actually show what they want to the people.
